Case Study: E-Learning - Certified College Course
CLIENT: PSC CORPORATE COLLEGE

A GAME PLAN:

When starting an eLearning or training project, we analyze the aims and goals and put together a comprehensive proposal that includes budget projections.

This is generally a starting point for discussion and refinement of the scope and plans to proceed. This mutually arrived-at document will serve as the basic project 'bible'. And although alterations to the scope and plans do often occur as the project progresses and new ideas come to light, the initial project proposal is the driving force and context throughout.

FUN STUFF: CONCEPTS

This project required a contextual narrative framework that DE felt would be served well not by one, but two 'host' characters. One being the "straight man", representing the company and a high level of professionalism and success, and the other the "foil" or the goofball who thinks he knows it all, but really is afraid the User taking the test will best him in the courses tasks.

The characters frame the goals and challenges ahead for the User, and they pop in now and then to offer support or challenge and taunt, depending on who's popping in. . .

STAGING:

Once the two main character concepts are approved, we move on to look and feel for the navigation, color schemes, logo development and technical considerations for the course.

All of this is presented, initially, in a private staging area set up by DE for our clients to view as the work progresses.

DEVELOPMENT:

A lengthy period of technical and content development happens at this stage, with back-end programming, navigation construction, User tracking and course animation/desigin.

Complex games that tie into grading and percentage performance databases are built, as well as multiple choice quizzes for each chapter.

DATA FLOW AND VALUE:

For the client, the data management is a key component to the success of the project. With the development of secure User sign up registration and account management, our team was able to create a complex data stream for User activity.

Quizz and game performance is recorded and compared in absolutes, and displayed as a percentage for both internal and User information. Position is recorded, so an individusal can return at any time to the course and the system rememebers where they left off - and much more.

FINISHING AND REFINEMENT:

Finally, the animation is rendered and integrated. The system is tested, content tweaked and improved.

The purchasing aspect of the course is set in place, and then it is published. Users can log in at their convenience, pay securely for the course, and explore and learn at their pace for certified accreditation.
